Jakob Limmer (*1988, Bamberg) studied media art from 2016 to 2020 at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig under Joachim Blank in the class for installation and space. Prior to this, he studied sound design within the MultiMediaArt program at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.
In my artistic practice, I investigate how structures act upon bodies and how spaces for agency can emerge within this field of tension. My work begins with the observation that the human body is constantly confronted with systems, rules, and built environments, while simultaneously attempting to influence, subvert, or adapt to them.
Allegorically, my works often emerge from the encounter of opposing material worlds. In the meeting of soft, body-related materials with rigid structural elements, pressure, resistance, adaptation, and vulnerability become visible. The works can be understood as condensations of processes in which power relations are inscribed and shifted.
I understand my works as investigations into how systems of order shape the body and how the body, in turn, attempts to transform that order. I am particularly interested in moments of transition: states between stability and dissolution, control and yielding, protection and exposure.
My sculptures, wall pieces, and installations deliberately move between image and object. They capture moments in which structures deform, soften, or come under pressure, opening a space in which questions of agency, resistance, and human presence can be negotiated.
